• Avoiding Over-Excavation — Caries indicators prevent unnecessary removal of sound dentine near the pulp. Without an indicator, tactile and visual judgement alone can lead to pulp exposure in deep carious lesions.
• Compatibility with Adhesives — Rinse caries indicator completely before bonding -- residue can inhibit adhesive polymerisation. An air-water syringe rinse for 10 seconds followed by visual inspection confirms complete removal.
• Shelf Life and Storage — Store caries indicators at room temperature away from direct sunlight. Most formulations have a 2-3 year shelf life unopened; cap tightly after use to prevent evaporation.
