Berek & Novak’s Gynecology 2022

The invitation to edit Berek & Novak’s Gynecology to adapt to Indian context was received with
a mixture of anxiety, pride, and happiness by us. This is a well-established text and reference book
widely used by gynecologists in India. To contribute to a book of such repute did seem to be a big
challenge. At the same time, we took this as an opportunity to provide country-specific information to
make for interesting reading, which was the felt need by many of us.
Over the years, each subspecialty of Gynecology has evolved substantially. Every new edition of this
book has been published considering new evidence and evolving practices while continuing to provide
the basic foundation for the beginners. This South Asian edition aims to present more India-specific
information.
The basic structure and content of the chapters have been retained. Information including disease statistics, medico-legal aspects pertaining to gynecological practice in India and standard management
protocols, where applicable, have been included after ensuring their authenticity. Female genital TB
is an important cause for morbidity among women in India. Challenges in the diagnosis and treatment
of female genital TB have also been included at appropriate sections.
We thoroughly enjoyed the journey from planning to completion of this adaptation. We do hope that
the textbook will continue to be an immense educational resource and that the professionals will enjoy
reading this South Asian Edition and find it even more insightful.
