Using Cidex Safely and Effectively

• High-Level Disinfection vs Sterilisation — Immersion in Cidex for 20-45 minutes achieves high-level disinfection; 10-hour immersion achieves cold sterilisation. Use 20-45 minutes for handpieces and flexible instruments between patients; reserve 10 hours for items requiring sterility.
• Instrument Compatibility — Cidex is safe for stainless steel, aluminium, rubber, and most plastics used in dental equipment. Avoid prolonged immersion of chrome-plated or brass fittings -- glutaraldehyde can cause surface corrosion over repeated exposures.
• Solution Activation and Life — Cidex requires activation by mixing the two components before first use; activated solution lasts 14-28 days. Test activated solution with Cidex test strips before each use to confirm effective glutaraldehyde concentration (at least 1.5%).
• Rinsing After Immersion — Thoroughly rinse instruments with sterile or distilled water after Cidex immersion before patient use. Residual glutaraldehyde on instruments can cause tissue irritation -- rinse for at least 30 seconds per instrument.
• Ventilation Requirements — Glutaraldehyde vapour is an irritant -- use Cidex only in well-ventilated areas or under extraction ventilation. Recommended exposure limit is 0.05 ppm ceiling. A covered soaking tray significantly reduces vapour release in clinic environments.
• Disposal Protocol — Spent Cidex solution must be neutralised and disposed of according to local Egyptian environmental regulations. Do not pour undiluted glutaraldehyde down drains -- neutralise with sodium bicarbonate solution before disposal.

How to Use Cidex for Instrument Disinfection

1. Activate the Cidex solution by combining the solution and activator components per label instructions.
2. Pre-clean instruments thoroughly -- remove all blood, debris and biofilm before immersion.
3. Immerse instruments fully for 20-45 minutes for high-level disinfection (or 10 hours for sterilisation).
4. Test solution concentration with Cidex test strips before each use cycle.
5. Remove instruments, rinse thoroughly with sterile water, and dry before patient use or storage.
