This book is now in its third edition, a testimony to the popularity of the 100 Cases Series, and
the Obstetrics and Gynaecology edition, as a teaching and learning tool.
Reflecting the most up-to-date practice, this edition contains several new cases to reflect contemporary diagnostic and therapeutic tools, while retaining the cases reported to be most useful.
The authors are established teachers of undergraduate and postgraduate obstetrics and gynaecology, working daily with and thoroughly understanding the learning needs of medical students
and junior doctors in the field.
Real clinical scenarios, from which these cases originate, remain the best way to stimulate
thought and understand clinical and pathological processes. Through our question and answer
format, the reader is encouraged to practice the skill of formulating investigation and treatment

We have ensured that all of the cases incorporate published national guidance from national
bodies such as the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the Royal
College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) or from specialist societies such as the
British Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP).
As with earlier editions, the book is written with both medical students and junior clinicians in
their obstetrics and gynaecology placements in mind and has been found to be an ideal tool for
both.
Our experience has found that there are always moments in the day between theatre cases, while
considering a patient just seen in clinic or after taking a patient history in the emergency department when the cases are pertinent. The simple indexing system means it is easy to find a case to
refer to that relates to your current patient, whether that be bleeding in early pregnancy, fibroid
management, reduced fetal movements or a postnatal pyrexia.
The cases vary in complexity to reinforce important or common subject areas. The book should
